Knowing who has been awarded for what in the past is a valuable resource when planning your proposal. Browse the following resources to see who has received awards at Appalachian and at other institutions.
Awards Made to Appalachian Principal Investigators (PIs)
Researchers at Appalachian State University have received funding for a variety of projects. Contact Dr. Pollyanne Frantz for assistance in obtaining copies of funded proposals.
- The ORSP monthly reports contain information on successfully funded PIs from Appalachian State University
- The University Research Council (URC) makes small awards to Appalachian faculty to support and encourage research, scholarship and grant writing. Click here to see past URC award recipients.
- The Board of Trustees Faculty International Research Travel Grants award funds foreign travel to libraries, archives, museums, laboratories, computer facilities, natural settings, government agencies, corporations, etc. that are essential to the research described in the proposal. - The Hubbard Center supports a grant program, Foundation Fellows, designed to support a faculty member’s career development in teaching, scholarship or creative activity, and/or service. Contact Dr. Pollyanne Frantz for more information on this award.
- The Graduate School accepts proposals from faculty for funding to support a graduate research associate (GRA) to work on a faculty member's research project. Contact Dr. Pollyanne Frantz for more information on the Graduate Research Associate Mentoring (GRAM) Program.

Search these databases to find out what agencies and foundations have funded in the past. Contact Dr. Pollyanne Frantz for assistance in obtaining copies of funded proposals.
- Environmental Protection Agency Grants Information and Control System (GICS)
- Use the Grants Information Query to search the database, using applicant name, award date, grant, geography, or text.
- National Endowment for the Humanities
- Use the Funded Projects Query Form to access information about projects funded by NEH since 1980. Search by name, key words, organization, state, field of project, grant program, division or award date.
- Recent Grant Awards list by program. Search feature is not available. Press releases containing information about award recipients are also available.
- National Institutes of Health Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool Expenditures and Reports (RePORTER)
- Comprehensive funding information for NIH grants and contracts. RePORTER allows users to locate and view NIH awards using their own search criteria, as well as detailed budget information, research results and products, including patents and publications. Data is available from 1985 through to the present. This database previously was known as CRISP.
- National Science Foundation Awards Data
- Information about research projects that the NSF has funded since 1989 can be found by searching the Award Abstracts database. The information includes abstracts that describe the research, and names of principal investigators and their institutions. The database includes both completed and in-process research.
- U.S. Department of Agriculture Current Research Information System
- The Current Research Information System (CRIS) web site is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's documentation and reporting system for ongoing and recently completed research and education projects in agriculture, food and nutrition, and forestry.
- U.S. Department of Education
- Contains information on discretionary and formula grants awarded. The database has multiple methods for searching, viewing, and downloading data about awards.
- U.S. Department of Energy
- Project summaries of ongoing or recently completed Department of Energy research projects are available for online searching in this publicly accessible database. Projects pertain to a range of R&D disciplines in energy, science, and technology.
- Foundation Center 990-PF Search
- Tax-exempt organizations and nonexempt charitable trusts use the Internal Revenue Service Forms 990 and 990-PF for financial reporting purposes. The forms include a section where grant awards made are listed.
- Demystifying the 990-PF is a helpful tutorial provided by the Foundation Center.
- University of North Carolina SPARC public entry site
- The Sponsored Programs and Research Council (SPARC) data system is the central repository of sponsored programs proposal and award data (fiscal year 1976 to the current fiscal year) for the 16 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina and the UNC General Administration.
- Federal R&D Project Summaries and Awards
- Search across scientific databases of federal research and development project summaries. With a single query, discover what is happening in the federal R&D community
- Contributing agencies include:
- Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Grants On-Line Database (GOLD)
- This database of grants funded by the AHRQ as well as research projects conducted by AHRQ staff offers multiple searching options.
- Institute of Museum and Library Services
- The IMLS supports libraries and museums. This database contains award abstracts dating back to 1997.
- National Endowment for the Arts
- Search options include awards made by category, by discipline, or by state. Review panelist listings dating back to 2005 also can be viewed.

- This partnership of federal research-oriented grant making agencies is led by the National Science Foundation. The Research Spending and Results database contains active awards for the National Science Foundation (1994 to date) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (2007 to date).
- NC Grants
- The North Carolina Office of State Auditor Grants Information Center (GIC) was closed on August 31, 2009; all responsibilities were transferred to the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM).
- The new web site is NC Grants, a one stop resource on grants providing online reporting access for grant recipients, and grant information and resources for the general public, grant seekers, grant recipients and state agencies.
